How to read buy and sell prices (spread) on the Public Gold site

How to read Public Gold's live price table: PG Sell, PG Buy, the GAP price per gram and what spread means.

Summary

  • Public Gold's live price page shows two prices for each product: PG Sell and PG Buy.
  • PG Sell is what you pay to buy from Public Gold. PG Buy is what Public Gold pays to buy back from you.
  • The difference between them is the spread. It is part of the cost of buying and selling gold.
  • Always check the update time on the price page. Prices change throughout the day.

Where prices are shown

Public Gold shows prices on its home page under Public Gold Price (24 Hours Live), with the time of the last update. The GAP terms state that daily prices are shown on the website as selling and buying prices (clause 1.11).

Reading the GAP price

The GAP section shows how many grams RM100 buys and the price of 1 gram. For example, on 16 Oct 2026 at 10:35 am: RM100 = 0.1692 gram and RM591 = 1.0000 gram (example only; check the live price ↗). That was the price to buy GAP gold at that moment.

Reading the bar and dinar tables: PG Sell and PG Buy

For physical gold, the table has two columns:

  • PG Sell: the price Public Gold sells to you, i.e. what you pay to buy.
  • PG Buy: the price Public Gold buys from you, i.e. what you receive if you sell back.

The column names are written from Public Gold's point of view. So when you want to buy, look at PG Sell. When you want to sell, look at PG Buy.

What is the spread?

The spread is the difference between the price you buy at and the price you can sell at, at the same moment.

Example on 16 Oct 2026 at 10:35 am, prices change every day: 10 g bar, PG Sell RM5,909 and PG Buy RM5,377. Spread = RM5,909 − RM5,377 = RM532, about 9% of the purchase price. Check current prices on the official site.

In other words, if you bought that 10 g bar and sold it back the same day, you would get about RM532 less. The gold price would need to rise by more than the spread before the buy-back value matched what you paid, and there is no guarantee that will happen.

Tips for reading prices

  • Check the update time at the top of the page. An old screenshot is not the current price.
  • Compare prices for the same product and weight.
  • Remember the spread whenever you plan to sell within a short time.
